High demand for course places as thousands call Kingston University’s Clearing hotline on A-level results day

More than 3,000 prospective students have contacted Kingston University’s Clearing hotline since A-level results were released this morning, hoping to secure a place and learn more about the University’s Future Skills approach to education.
Around 150 hotline operators – including course leaders, lecturers and current students – have been fielding enquiries and helping guide students through the Clearing process. Demand has been high, with more than 600 calls within the first hour after lines opened at 8am.
Working alongside the hotline operators, some 300 academics have been on hand to talk applicants through course-specific queries and explain how the University’s Future Skills programme equips students with the human-centric skills most valued by employers, alongside their subject-specific learning.
From students who outperformed expectations to those exploring new options after missing out on first-choice offers, seeking to change their course or looking for a new career direction, the team has helped thousands find the right path forward.
The University's Executive Director of Student Services Louisa Green said there had been strong interest in a range of courses so far today, across areas such as business, accounting, law, computer science, pharmaceutical science and biomedical science.
Those calling the hotline would be supported through an initial friendly conversation with a hotline operator, she explained. They would discuss their A-level results over the call, and if grades met requirements for a course with places remaining, would be able to make an offer.
“Although places on our courses are filling fast, there are still a range of options available and our friendly team of hotline operators is here to help applicants navigate the Clearing process,” she said.
“We’re increasingly hearing from students who want reassurance that going to university will equip them with the skills needed to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing workplace. Our Future Skills programme ensures undergraduate students develop the skills employers have told us they need most from graduates, from creative problem solving to digital competency, resilience and adaptability, giving them a strong foundation alongside their subject knowledge to go on to have successful careers.”
