About
As a Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Kingston University, I am a dedicated analytical chemist with over a decade of professional experience in both industry and academia. I specialise in method development and validation, with a particular focus on complex analytes like pesticides and herbicides.
My academic journey began at the University of Salerno, Italy, where I earned my undergraduate degree in Chemistry in 2010. I then moved to the UK to advance my specialisation, obtaining a Master's in Forensic Analysis and subsequently a PhD in Chemistry in 2018, both from Kingston University. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), and a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and The Aerosol Society, reflecting my active engagement within the scientific community.
Professional Experience
Before transitioning to academia, I honed my skills as an analytical chemist at several prominent organisations, including Cara Technology, Thames Water, and the global agribusiness leader, Syngenta. This extensive industry background provides me with a unique, real-world perspective that I bring to my research and teaching, allowing me to bridge the gap between theoretical science and practical application.
Qualifications
- BSc Hons in Chemistry, University of Salerno (Università degli Studi di Salerno),2011.
- MSc in Forensic Analysis, Kingston University,2012.
- PhD in Chemistry, Kingston University,2018.
- Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy.
Domains
I employ a student-centred teaching philosophy, utilizing cutting-edge technology to create a highly adaptive and interactive learning environment. My goal is to ensure students are not only well-versed in the latest scientific principles but are also prepared to thrive in an ever-evolving professional landscape.
Courses taught
My research is at the forefront of pharmaceutical and analytical science, where I focus on creating innovative solutions to pressing global health challenges. I am proud that my work has been cited in policy documents for the World Health Organization (WHO) and featured in major news outlets like Reuters.
My primary research interests include:
- Drug Delivery: I am pioneering the use of polymeric nanoparticles for targeted cancer therapy, developing advanced inhalation therapies, and exploring the potential of thermal aerosols and novel wound healing systems.
- Product Safety & Compliance: I am actively involved in research concerning Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS), contributing to the development of robust safety protocols and compliance standards.
- Pedagogical Innovation: I am dedicated to enhancing the student learning experience by developing tailored digital tools, including AI-driven chatbots and virtual reality simulations, to create an adaptive and engaging educational environment.
I am also a guest editor for a special issue of the journal Pharmaceutics, titled "Recent Advances in Pharmaceutical Applications of Functionalized Polysaccharides and Their Derivatives".
I am a firm believer in the power of collaboration and maintain active partnerships to translate my research into tangible outcomes. My key collaborations include:
- Skalene: I am co-developing next-generation inhalation devices to overcome the cost, training, and environmental drawbacks of traditional inhalers. In this collaboration I am also instrumental in validating a novel Raman spectroscopy system for the detection of drugs in biological matrices.
- Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale del Mezzogiorno and the University of Naples Federico II: I am engaged in projects related to cannabinoid formulations and food safety.
- Theranosti Center Srl: I contribute to the development of an innovative intraoperative radiotherapy system.
Within Kingston University, I hold significant leadership responsibilities. As an Admission Tutor for the MPharm program, I play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of pharmacists. I am also the Personal Tutor Lead for the Department of Pharmacy, where I also oversee the development and integration of AI to enhance the student experience and support.
