About
Sankar Sivarajah is Head of Kingston Business School and Professor of Technology Management and Circular Economy at Kingston University London. He joined Kingston in September 2024, having previously served at the University of Bradford as Head of Department from 2017 and later as Dean and Head of the School of Management from 2019. He began his academic career in 2014 as a postdoctoral researcher at Brunel University London.
At Bradford, he worked with colleagues to shape and implement a five-year strategy that supported the School’s renewal and growth. During this time, the School strengthened its research profile, developed distinctive programmes, and built closer links with business and academic partners. It retained its triple crown accreditation (AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS), was recognised as the Times Higher Education (THE) Business School of the Year in 2021, and was ranked first in the world in the Financial Times 2024 ranking of its Distance Learning MBA for value for money and ESG/net zero teaching.
Sankar's teaching and research explore how digital technologies can be applied to create value for business and society. In 2025, he was recognised by Clarivate as a Highly Cited Researcher, placing him among the top 1% of researchers globally by citations in his field and year, with his work acknowledged in the cross-field category spanning Business and Information Science. He is also recognised in Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists list in the ICT field.
He serves as Deputy Editor of the Journal of Enterprise Information Management and has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications. He has led and co-led research, innovation, and consultancy projects worth more than £3 million. These projects span 6G technology impact evaluation, AI innovation strategy, and Smart Cities, funded by leading research bodies and industry partners. He is also an appointed evaluation panel member for the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
Sankar is involved in several sector-wide activities, including serving as a peer reviewer for EFMD and AACSB accreditations, as a Council Member and Treasurer of the Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS), and as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Through these roles, he engages with and learns from best practices across business schools and universities across Europe, Asia and United States of America.
