About
I am a Research Assistant in the Kingston University Intellectual Disability (KIND) Research Group. I have an intellectual disability, which doesn’t stop me having a job. I have worked at Kingston University since 2024. I bring lived experience, which is important in the research we do here.
I work on two projects: the DAPPLE Project (how to make sure everyone with an intellectual disability gets good care at the end of their life). I also work as part of the co-production group of the LeDeR Programme (NHS England’s programme of reviewing the deaths of people with a learning disability).
As a researcher, I am involved in running co-production groups. I help with data analysis and telling people about our research. We make a lot of videos and put them on our social media channels, so everyone can learn about our research.
I also have another paid job as a co-trainer on the Oliver McGowan mandatory training, teaching healthcare staff about learning disability and autism. I like travelling to places for work and meeting new people.
It is really important that people with intellectual disabilities are involved in research, because we are the people with lived experience.
