About Jane

Professor Jane Hendy joined the University in May 2023. As a multidisciplinary academic Jane has extensive experience working across different domains and policy landscapes. She started her career with an ESRC PhD scholarship in applied health and social psychology before taking up posts at UCL, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Imperial College London, the University of Surrey and Brunel University, London (as Dean of the Business School).

Jane is an active researcher and has gained over £7m in funded research grants from organisations such as the Medical Research Council, National Institute of Health Research, UK Research and Innovation, and the Department of Health. A common thread running through her work is societal change through innovation and policy impact.

Responsibilities and portfolio areas

Jane is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and has responsibility for the strategic leadership and management of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences which encompasses:

  • Kingston Business School (KBS) with provision for all aspects of business management
  • School of Law, Social and Behavioural Sciences (LSBS) with Departments of Economics, Law and Psychology and the Department of Criminology, Politics and Sociology

Jane is responsible for the strategic, financial and operational oversight of the Faculty in line with university strategic priorities. She works closely with the Associate Deans of Learning and Teaching and of Research, and with academic and professional services leads.

  • Expert policy advisor: the Open Innovation Team (improving ministerial decision making)
  • Expert policy advisor: South Korean Government (in partnership with the MRC) on the national implementation of the Smart City
  • Advisory board and founder member: Design Factory Global Network (West London) - developing an innovative environment for learning, teaching, research and industry co-operation
  • Commissioner and policy advisor: NIHR
  • Advisory board member: The Health Foundation
  • AACSB Nominating Committee Member and panel advisor
  • Scientific Committee Member: Monaco Business School
