From uncertainty to opportunity: my journey through Clearing

I made the decision to come to Kingston University in one day.
Before that, I wasn't even sure if university was the right path for me. I had applied to multiple universities just to keep my options open, but none of them truly felt like the right fit. I was still thinking about alternatives like apprenticeships, especially because I've always been interested in getting real-world experience early on.
When I started researching universities, Kingston stood out to me. It wasn’t just a name; it was the course structure. I saw that they offered Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence with a professional placement and that caught my attention. Apprenticeships are extremely competitive, and although that was something I had considered. I knew how difficult it would be to secure one and wanted a more concrete plan.
Seeing a degree that combined technical knowledge with a professional placement felt like the best of both worlds. It meant I could gain industry experience while building a strong academic foundation and that was a huge factor in my Clearing decision.
Through Clearing I was able to secure a place on my course. The process was much more straightforward than I had imagined. Instead of feeling rushed or judged, I felt supported. It didn't feel like I was choosing a backup choice, it felt like I was choosing something that genuinely aligned with what I was after.
Looking back now, Clearing gave me opportunities I wouldn't have had otherwise.
Since joining Kingston, I've become a student ambassador, which has allowed me to represent the university and support prospective students. I also applied for the Bright Ideas competition and became one of the top 49 finalists. Experiences like that have pushed me outside of my comfort zone and helped me grow in ways I never expected.
If I hadn’t made that one-day decision, I wouldn't have gained these opportunities, made new friends, or gained crucial life experiences that comes with being a Kingston University student.
Clearing wasn't a last resort for me. It was the moment I chose a path that suited my future goals. And sometimes, the decisions you make quickly end up being the ones that shape you the most.
