Bedroom packing checklist
Bedding
You’ll need a mattress protector, either a quilt or duvet – depending on your preference – pillows and some duvet covers. I’d recommend two if you can, so you don’t have to wash them the same day.
Door hooks
Although there is lots of storage in the halls here at Kingston University, these are something I wished I had immediately just to help organise things like belts, bags and coats. They come in handy for everyday things you just need to grab like a dressing gown or towels.
Storage organisers
Things can get quite disorganised without these. Think baskets or storage containers, especially under your bed and on shelves as there as it just makes it easier not to have everything just thrown in together.
Coat hangers
This is probably the number one thing people forget. You might get lucky and have a few in your room, but if you like to hang your clothes, definitely remember to bring quite a few hangers.
Photos, posters and drawing pins
I did bring a few photos but ended up printing more when I arrived and finding things in magazines to add to my noticeboard (don’t forget drawing pins for this). Decorations really make your room feel more like yours, so they are important to bring.
Extension lead
A fused four-way extension lead is essential for all your electronics.
Towels
Like with bedding, how many is up to you. I brought two large towels, two small towels for my hair and two hand towels so I didn’t get caught out on washing day.
Kitchen packing checklist
Tupperware
You’ll probably end up with lots of leftovers at some point and it is the best way to spend less time cooking and make the most of the ingredients you buy. Plus, you can save money by taking it into university the next day and heat it up in a microwave in one of the social spaces.
Plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs and glasses
You really do only need two plates, two glasses, and two bowls. I ended up keeping extra plates, bowls and glasses in my room and never getting them out. But I still had to pack them up, and they took up room in my car when coming home.
Saucepans set
I got a starter kit that came with a couple of saucepans, a frying pan, a baking tray, and essential utensils like a spatula. Wilko and Ikea are great places to pick this type of bundle up, and they are usually very reasonably priced.
Cleaning bits
Washing-up liquid, sponge, clothes, and tea towels should definitely be on your list.
What is provided in Kingston University Halls?
Remember, Kingston University does provide a lot of items for your bedroom and communal kitchen so remember to check this out before packing.
