Support for autistic students
If you’re planning to study at Kingston University and have an autism spectrum condition, this webpage will provide an overview of the support which is available to you, to help remove the barriers that you may face.
Smoothing the transition from school to university
Starting university is a big event for many students. If you have autism spectrum conditions (ASCs) we are here to help you make the transition from school to university as smooth as possible. Our Disability and Mental Health Service team will support you from the start of your course till the time when you graduate from Kingston University.
What support is available to autistic students?
Kingston University offers a wide-range of support to autistic students including:
- Putting together a Summary of Support Needs (SoSN) – a support plan which documents the things you may find difficult and the reasonable adjustments that you require. This is then shared (with your consent) with the key people you work with at the university, for example staff in your faculty.
- Support with applying for and accessing the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA)
- Access to our Assistive Technology Rooms and Sensory Room on campus.
- Supporting with Reasonable Adjustments if staying in University Halls of Residence.
- Counselling support.
- Arranging consent for us to liaise with a Trusted Contact regarding your support if help is needed.
