TV Studio

MB1078 First floor, Main Building, Penrhyn Road Campus

The TV Studio is a dedicated department facility able to teach television production and broadcast and other filming activities to up to 20 students at a time. The room is divided into two sections: one part being the Gallery - a control room for the live decisions for broadcast to be taken by the production team; and the other part is a Studio - the larger open area where the cameras, lighting, sets, actors/presenters and crew perform, creating both picture and sound for the production team in the gallery.

It is equipped with industry-standard hardware and software:

  • 3 x JVC DVX200 camcorders
  • Tricaster 8000 vision mixer and mainframe – which allows for pre-recorded VTs to be played during live broadcast
  • Behringer X-Touch midi mixer for sound control
  • Behringer X-Touch extender
  • Black Magic 12G audio monitor
  • Tinkerlist Script management software
  • 5 touchscreen PCs for Tinkerlist in the gallery
  • Hollyland Talk-Back Syscom1000T - 16 Belt Pack
  • 4 x Sony ECM Lavalier microphones
  • 4 x ARRI 650 PLUS tungsten lamps
  • 5 x C-Stands
  • 1 NoiseAir acoustic curtain for sound deadening – creating a sound-proof gallery
  • 3 x camera pedestals for tracking etc. (recently serviced and refurbished)
  • Miscellaneous lighting in the rig (10+ lamps)
  • DMX lighting controller
  • 2 x Dimmers for the above
  • Green screen wall and fabric Cycloramas
  • Assorted XLR and other cables for interconnectivity

Audio booths

MB3063 & MB3064, Main Building, Penrhyn Road Campus 

These are dedicated department facilities set up for podcasting and equipped with a Rode Podcaster. Students also use this as a radio studio. Faculty investment is being made in a new radio studio, producers' room and broadcast newsroom in MB3002. Work will commence on this in summer 2023

Centrally managed and scheduled teaching labs equipped with Apple computers used for all Media and Communication workshop classes.
