About
I am Head of the School of Engineering and Professor of Engineering Management at Kingston University London. I joined Kingston University in 2024 and was previously at London South Bank University (LSBU), where I was a Professor of Engineering Management and held various roles, including Interim Dean of the School of Engineering. I joined LSBU in 2018, having previously worked in senior management roles at Imperial College London for 15 years. Before joining Imperial College London in 2003, I was at the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency and QinetiQ, and initially worked as a research scientist in the field of energetic materials.
I hold a BSc (University of Birmingham) and PhD (Brunel University) both in chemistry as well as an MBA with Distinction (Open University Business School). I originally trained as a research chemist although several years later I changed my disciplinary focus from the physical sciences to engineering management and have undertaken research in several related areas. This includes project management, innovation and entrepreneurship as well as sustainable engineering. More recently I have carried out research on clean technologies, renewable energy technologies, digital transformation and engineering education.
Previous research positions include Visiting Fellow at Imperial College Business School and Visiting Fellow in the School of Business, Economics, and Informatics at Birkbeck, University of London. I served as the President of the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM) in 2019-2020 as part of being on the ASEM Board of Directors from 2014 to 2021. I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Management, Fellow of the Association for Project Management, and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I currently serve as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Engineering Management Journal.

Domains
I have published widely across science, engineering, and organisational systems from both technological and managerial perspectives. Studies have examined a series of challenges that include management and societal challenges. Management challenges focus on how organisations, projects and technologies create value for stakeholders, such as through improved project management practices. Societal challenges focus on understanding the optimal processes for the adoption of sustainable practices and renewable energy technologies alongside other studies on understanding how companies adopt digital technologies to remain competitive.
In this context, I have led and contributed to research studies across a range of interrelated areas, including project management, systems engineering, research and technology management, innovation management, entrepreneurship, sustainable engineering, environmental management, renewable energy technologies, digital transformation, and engineering education. These studies require the management of complexity as well as technological inputs, and the subject of engineering management provides an ideal knowledge base to underpin the research. Various methodologies are employed, including empirical research methods based on both social science and engineering science methods (quantitative and qualitative), such as surveys, interviews, techno-economic analysis, and other methods.
