Students with disabilities or dyslexia

Disabled students may qualify for additional financial support through the Disabled Students' Allowance. This can provide extra help with:

  • specialist equipment;
  • non-medical helpers, such as sign-language interpreters; and
  • additional travel costs.

The amount you get depends on your needs rather than your household income.

Students with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties (SPLDs) can apply for help towards the cost of an educational psychologist's assessment if they do not already have a post-16 assessment. All current Kingston University students who have been referred for an educational psychologist's assessment by the disability and mental health advisers can apply for assistance towards the cost of the assessment. For more information get in touch with the disability and mental health advisers on 020 8417 7314 or email disability@kingston.ac.uk.

Other support

If you receive a bursary from one of the following groups, you could apply to them for financial help in relation to your disability:

The type and amount of awards are similar to those paid by the award agencies. You will need to supply medical evidence.
