Professor Audley Genus

Professor of Innovation and Technology Management

I won a joint studentship from the ESRC/EPSRC, which allowed me  to undertake and successfully complete a PhD at Aston University (between 1987-1991, supervised by Dr David Collingridge). My doctoral research was on the topic of energy technology policy and innovation related to UK North Sea oil. Since then I have pursued research on innovation and institutional change in the (renewable) energy sector and sustainable production and consumption.I left Aston University in 1993 to take up a lectureship at Brunel University and then later worked at Royal Holloway, University of London. I spent most of the 2000s at Newcastle University, where I was subject group leader for innovation. I have been at Kingston University - and a professor of innovation - since 2012.

Other current projects include: 'Community Energy in England' and 'Knowledge Exchange for Entrepreneurship in Permaculture' (in collaboration with the Permaculture Association, funded by the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, part-sponsored by the ESRC). I am a member of the editorial board of the journal Technology Analysis and Strategic Management. To date, I have supervised five doctoral students to completion.
