About

I have nearly 25 years' experience as a principal investigator (PI) and more than 100 peer-reviewed research publications. My group has an international reputation for excellence in synthetic organic and polymer chemistry, with applications in drug discovery and materials science. As PI, I have supervised 28 PhDs to completion, and directed the research of many postdoctoral workers. I joined Kingston University in September 2017, after 17.5 years at the National University of Ireland Galway (NUI Galway, now University of Galway).

At NUI Galway, I was Lecturer, then Senior Lecturer in Chemistry, and for a time, Vice Dean for the College of Science (Research). In 2007, I was Canon Foundation Research Fellow at Kobe University in Japan, and I have held Visiting Professorships at the Universities of Reims Champagne-Ardenne and Le Havre (France) in 2013 and 2014. I am Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC, UK) since 2009.

I was section Editor for Comprehensive Heterocyclic Chemistry IV (Elsevier, published in 2022). I serve on the Editorial Board of Molecules (Basel, MDPI) and I am Editor-in-Chief for Molbank (Basel, MDPI). I was Adjunct Professor at NUI Galway (2017-2020). I was chair of the organizing committee for Bioheterocycles 2017 (International Conference on Heterocycles in Bioorganic Chemistry) held in Galway and RSC Organic London & SE Division Meeting at Kingston University in 2020.

In 2026, I am an EPSRC-funded Senior Visiting Fellow at the School of Chemical Engineering, The University of New South Wales, UNSW Sydney, Australia.
