Build stop-motion narratives
The Introduction to Animation course is a five-day journey into the world of stop-motion storytelling.
Whether you’re new to animation or want to expand your skills, this course is perfect for learning how to bring characters and stories to life.
You’ll explore creative ways of building narratives, develop characters and experiment with movement and sound. Working with professional tools like Dragonframe and other industry-standard equipment, you’ll learn essential animation techniques and principles.
The course blends individual creative exploration with collaborative group work, giving you an insight into the teamwork involved in professional animation. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to independently produce your own animations.
Student work
Example course structure
Learn essential animation principles such as storyboarding, frame rate and keyframes. Develop your characters and create compelling story sequences.
Dive into hands-on animation with Dragonframe software. Bring your ideas to life by animating the stories and characters you’ve developed.
Explore the power of sound in animation. Use editing software to finalise your film and add audio. End the week with a group viewing of all the animations created during the course.

This course is led by experienced Kingston School of Art tutors who are experts in animation and storytelling.
What to bring
We’ll send you a simple list of items to bring one week before the course starts. All other materials and equipment are provided by Kingston School of Art.

Fee: £550 (as an educational institution, fees for short courses are VAT-free)
