Master of Business Administration MBA: Research areas

Current research in this subject

Research is an essential part of the day-to-day life of Kingston Business School and is embedded in its intellectual activities and development. In the most recent RAE (Research Assessment Exercise) undertaken in 2008, the research output of Kingston Business School was the highest rated of any new university. Ninety per cent of our research submitted was assessed as 'recognised internationally' or higher. Of this, 10% was classified as 'world leading' and 35% as 'internationally excellent'.

We have a vibrant research community engaging staff, research students and associates from government, industry and commerce, in a wide variety of endeavours from definitive pioneering academic research to highly focused consultancy for clients.

The excellent quality of our research is reflected in the international reputation of our professors and lecturers through publications and prize-winning conference papers, as well as substantial external funding from both the private and public sector, including HSBC Bank, Nokia, and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

Research activity is undertaken at three levels:

  • Research centres – such as the Small Business Research Centre (SBRC) and Centre Research in Employability, Skills & Society (CRESS).
  • Research groups – such as the Employee Engagement Consortium and the Emerging Technologies Group.
  • Individual department level, with numerous research and interest groups between academics.
