Public Relations and Corporate Communications Masters (MA): What our students say

Student profiles

Don't just take our word for it – here's what students say about what it's like to study at Kingston University.

Course: Corporate Communications MA (is now Public Relations and Corporate Communications MA)

"I am very thankful for the opportunity of doing an internship at the Fifth Business – a global change communications agency with an office in central London. That unique chance came to me via an email sent from the course director to all corporate communications students. After I was chosen, we conveniently arranged to start my internship only after I had finished my masters and handed in my dissertation, which was good to keep me focused on my studies and, later, to be able to give my best during the placement.

"What I liked the most in this internship was the great opportunity of seeing some of the theories I have studied during my course being applied in real life. For instance, I was asked to create an internal communications plan to be implemented within Fifth Business London office and was also involved with the creation of their social media strategy, by helping to conduct a competitors' analysis. In both situations, I could clearly use concepts that I had previously studied in Kingston Business School, which definitely helped me to complete the tasks.

"Despite the short time spent within the agency, I believe I managed to extract a lot of useful experiences from my internship, not only from the activities I was directly involved with, but also from observing other consultants. Since I only have some in-house professional experience in Brazil, it was great to be able to see how communications work is done in London and from an agency perspective. I was also very pleased to come across some technology used in internal communications, which I had not had the chance to work with before. I can definitely say that this internship helped me to see how and where to apply some of the key theories I studied in Kingston and can also say that it has challenged me to learn more about some tools currently used in communications, for instance SharePoint and social media platforms.

"All in all, it was a great experience that I will never forget!"
