Putney resident Emily Andrews is set for a new career as a learning disabilities nurse after securing her Kingston University place through Clearing.
After applying directly to Kingston last year to study a BSc (Hons) in Learning Disabilities Nursing, Emily says her new course has already changed her life.
“A year ago, I was a very different person. I was timid and very shy. Enrolling at Kingston University changed everything. I’m much more confident and living my best life.”
Emily is among hundreds of students who secured their place at Kingston last year by contacting the University’s Clearing Hotline.
“I always wanted to be a nurse but didn’t think I would be able to get into university to study nursing. I had worked with disabled children at a local primary school and really enjoyed that. My learning disabilities nursing course offers the best of both worlds.”
After completing two professional placements in her first year of study, Emily knows she has chosen the right career path.
“I’ve really enjoyed my placements. I’ve put into practice all of the skills we learnt in our simulation classes including some skills I never thought would be needed.
“This is my second time at university but this experience is very different. From day one, I’ve felt very supported. The teaching staff are hugely supportive and welcoming. I felt like I’d known everyone all my life. Kingston really is the best place to study nursing.”
Sophie Craven, Senior Lecturer in Learning Disabilities Nursing, said: “Having secured her place through Clearing, Emily is doing very well and is on track for a very bright future as a learning disabilities nurse.
“Kingston University is number one for nursing in London and our graduates are highly sought after. We offer courses in adult nursing, children’s nursing, mental health nursing and learning disabilities nursing. Our courses combine placements, simulated learning and classroom teaching so you’ll develop the skills, values and knowledge you need to support people's health needs effectively.”
