Kingston University ranked among top 10 for nine subject areas in latest Guardian University Guide
Kingston University has been rated one of the best places to study in the UK across nine subject areas in the latest Guardian University Guide, with four subjects ranked top in the capital.
Overall, the University came in at 62 out of 123 institutions in the national newspaper's institutional tables and ninth out of 20 London universities.
The University was named in the top 10 for biology, general nursing and fashion and textiles, with all three subjects placing sixth in the national tables. Creative writing was seventh, while film production and photography, forensic science, graphic design, civil engineering and mental health nursing also secured places in the top 10. The University was also the highest-ranked institution in London for biology, creative writing, film production and photography, and general nursing.
Preparing students for career success
All undergraduate students at Kingston University now benefit from its sector-leading Future Skills approach to education alongside their subject-specific learning. Around 13,000 students each year are developing the human-centric skills most valued by employers as a core, assessed part of their degree, working directly with industry.
This summer, the University marked a significant milestone, with the graduation of the first full cohort of students to complete all three stages of its sector-leading Future Skills programme. This followed the roll out of Apply, the final phase of the undergraduate programme, during the 2025-26 academic year.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Steven Spier said the University’s performance in this year’s tables reflected its commitment to providing students with an outstanding teaching and learning experience, underpinned by its expertise in Future Skills education.
“As one of only 26 institutions in the country rated Gold in all three Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) categories, we are committed to ensuring our students receive an exceptional education that prepares them to thrive both during their studies and after graduation,” Professor Spier said.
“These rankings reflect the dedication of our staff in delivering an outstanding student experience and high-quality teaching across a wide range of disciplines. Alongside our subject expertise, we have transformed our teaching through our Future Skills approach to education, ensuring our students develop the uniquely human skills, confidence and knowledge needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world of work.”
The Guardian Guide is regarded as one of the UK’s most influential higher education league tables. It is a trusted resource for potential students, both from the UK and overseas, and ranks universities on a range of measures. These include student satisfaction with teaching and assessment, student to staff ratio, course continuation rates and graduate outcomes.

General nursing was ranked sixth in the country and top in London while mental health nursing was also in the top 10 nationally.
Fashion and textiles earned a place among the UK's top 10, ranking sixth overall.
Biology secured sixth place nationally and topped the London rankings.
Film production and photography secured a place in the top 10 nationally and was ranked number one in London.
Graphic design achieved a top 10 national ranking.
Kingston University earned a place among the UK's top 10 for civil engineering.
Creative writing was ranked seventh in the national tables and top in London.
The University was ranked among the UK's top 10 for forensic science.
