About
As an Associate Professor in Forensic Psychology, I teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students, specialising in general psychology, forensic psychology, and criminology. My teaching portfolio encompasses a broad range of subjects, spanning from the intricacies of Forensic Psychology to the fields of Counselling Psychology and the ever-evolving domain of Cyber-Psychology.
Beyond my role in education, I am a committed researcher and a member of national and international research groups. Over the years, I have effectively managed and led external and internal research grants, primarily focusing on issues related to cyberbullying, online risks, and psychopathology among children and adolescents. These resources have enabled me to conduct comprehensive investigations into the pressing challenges faced by today's youth in our dynamic digital landscape, especially within the context of social media and online gaming platforms.
Qualifications
- BSc Psychology
- MSc Applied Forensic Psychology
- PhD Forensic Psychology
Domains
My primary research interests currently centre on online safety education and practices, with a focus on the experiences of digital risks and their intricate connections with prevalent mental health disorders. I am particularly intrigued by the interplay between physical disabilities, special educational needs (SEN), and psychological wellbeing in shaping the digital experiences of children and adolescents. My research delves into specific topics such as online-based harassment, cyberbullying, victimisation, problematic internet use (PIU), internet-based addictions, exposure to extreme and radical internet content, cyber-scams, inappropriate image sharing, and social media safety policies.
My research extends its purview to explore the pivotal roles played by educational institutions, parents, social services, healthcare professionals and charitable organisations in educating and supporting children and adolescents as they navigate the challenges of digital risks and harms while simultaneously promoting positive digital usage.
In the realm of psychopathology and counselling psychology, my interests revolve around common mental health disorders. This includes a keen focus on conditions such as depression, generalised anxiety disorder, self-esteem issues, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Understanding the dynamics and nuances of these disorders is integral to my research endeavours, especially their association in shaping risky online use.
Additionally, I maintain a steadfast commitment to advancing our comprehension of forensic interviewing techniques for vulnerable children functioning as eyewitnesses. My special emphasis lies in the Cognitive Interview technique, which plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality and reliability of information obtained from young witnesses.
