About
I am proud to be a Senior Lecturer at Kingston University, where I teach across undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. I am Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Working with Children & Young People: Social Pedagogy, School EDI Lead, and Departmental Admissions and Recruitment Lead. I am also a Senior Fellow of Advance HE.
In my previous role, I successfully established and led the Citizenship with Social Science PGCE route. My work in education spans more than 20 years, both internationally and across London. I have extensive experience in teacher training and educator development, particularly around issues of race, equity and inclusive practice.
Beyond the university, I serve as England Co-Lead for the Five Nations Network for Citizenship and Values Education and as an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Adviser to the Association for Citizenship Teaching (ACT). I also lead racial justice professional development and support the Racial Justice Network for schools across Richmond and Kingston through Achieving for Children. In addition, I am a member of the European Race Equity Forum.
Previously, I served as a School Governor in Kingston, where I led the development of the school’s Racial Justice Policy, delivered staff professional development and strengthened procedures to promote greater equity for pupils.
I hold a PhD in Sociology of Education from University College London’s Institute of Education, with a specialism in Critical Race Theory. My doctoral research explored the educational experiences, attainment and racialisation of British Indians across generations. My wider academic interests include race and education, educational inequalities, teacher education, citizenship education and social justice.
