About
I received my Bachelor of Pharmacy (1997) and Master of Pharmacy (2000) degrees from India. I subsequently moved to the UK in 2002 and pursued my PhD, which was funded by the School of Life and Health Sciences at Aston University, Birmingham, UK, and I completed it in 2006. My doctoral research involved enhancing the immunogenicity of plasmid DNA and subunit vaccines through surfactant-based particulate systems (supervisor: Professor Yvonne Perrie). Following the completion of my PhD, I was appointed as a teaching fellow at the School of Life and Health Sciences, Aston University, for a one-year term.
I joined Kingston University London in 2007 as a Lecturer and subsequently became Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutics. I have been the Course Leader for the MSc in Pharmaceutical Science / with Management Studies / and Professional Placement courses since 2009.
I lead a research team comprising both PhD and master's students, working on a range of formulation and drug delivery research projects. I am an author of several scientific research publications (papers and abstracts) in peer-reviewed journals and have also contributed to book chapters. I regularly serve as a reviewer for several international journals, including the International Journal of Pharmaceutics, the European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics, and Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy. I have been an Examiner for several PhD and 'Masters by Research' theses to date.
I am a SAT (self-assessment team) member of the Race Equality Charter (REC) group, and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) group at Kingston University.
My external positions include the following:
- Member of the Topical Advisory Panel for the research journal Pharmaceutics (Impact Factor: 5.8); (2020 to date).
- External Examiner for the MSc in Cosmetic Science programme at Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool, UK (2021 to 2025).
- External Examiner for the MSc in Pharmaceutical Science programme at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, UK (2024 to 2028).
- External Panel Member for the periodic review of the BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical Science course at Teesside University (March 2026).
Qualifications
- Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), 2020.
- Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (PGCTLHE), 2013.
- PhD, Medicines Research Unit, School of Life and Health Sciences, Aston University, Birmingham, UK, 2003-2006 (Supervisor: Professor Yvonne Perrie).
- M. Pharmacy, The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, 1998-2000.
- B. Pharmacy, Gulbarga University, Karnataka, India, 1993-1997.
Domains
I have over 19 years of experience teaching in higher education. I teach topics related to the pharmaceutics discipline, i.e. formulation and manufacture of synthetic and biological medicines, drug and gene delivery, clinical trials of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and pharmacokinetics to students in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
I was awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (PGCTLHE) qualification in 2013 and the Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) in 2020.
I am an External Examiner for the MSc in Cosmetic Science programme at Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool, UK (2021 to 2025) and for the MSc in Pharmaceutical Science programme at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, UK (2024 to 2028).
