About
I am an academic pharmacist with extensive experience in higher education teaching and researcher. Currently, I hold the position of full-time Associate Professor of clinical pharmaceutics at the School of Pharmacy at Kingston University. I earned my Pharmacy degree in 2001 (University of Aleppo in Syria), followed by Master’s and PhD degrees in Pharmaceutical Technology and Bio-pharmacy (University of Paris Sud in France). My research interests are fighting antimicrobial resistance via innovative pharmaceutical and environmental technologies, designing novel drug delivery systems, tissue engineering, personalised medicine, and drug solubility enhancement. I am a senior fellow of the British Higher Education Academy. I teach a variety of subjects including drug pre-formulation, formulations, smart delivery systems, pharmacokinetics, and pharmaceutical calculations. I actively contribute to the validation and accreditation of different courses at the Departments of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in the UK and oversees. I designed several modules for undergraduate and postgraduate students in both English and Arabic languages.
Qualifications
- PhD in pharmaceutical technology and bio-pharmacy, University of Paris-Sud.
- April 2024 - Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
- October 2010 - PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics. Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Paris-Sud, France.
- 2024-2006 - Master of Science (I&II) in Physico-Chemistry, Formulation, Vectorisation and Production of Health Products. Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Paris-Sud, France.
- 1996-2001 - B. Pharm degree from Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Aleppo, Syria.
- 2001-date - Registered Pharmacist, Association of Syrian Pharmacists and Ministry of Health.
Domains
Teaching
I teach a variety of subjects across different courses for UG and PG levels. This includes drug pre-formulation, formulations, smart delivery systems, pharmacokinetics, and pharmaceutical calculations. The modules I contribute to are PY4080, PY5141, PY5100, PY5011, PY6151, PY6021, PY7031, PY7010, CH5005, CH6009, CH6004. I integrate science in practice and use of technology to enhance students experience and outcomes. I use research-informed- and real-world scenario-based teaching to equip students with relevant knowledge and skills for future careers success. I also supervise yearly many BSc (CH6004), MPharm (PY7031) and MSc (CH7100) research projects. I foster collaborative partnership with my students to empower them taking ownership of their research.
Module leadership
I lead several modules at the department of Pharmacy including PY5141 and PY6180. I also led PY5100, PY5101, PY4130 from 2018-19 to 2024. I focus on integrating science into practice to equip students with knowledge and skills indispensable for future careers success. Students feedback and voice are central in my approach to improves the modules under my leadership.
Curriculum Development
I contributed to the re-accreditation, design, and validation of different courses at the department of Pharmacy at Kingston University. I led the design of Pharmaceutics division modules according to the new standards and requitements of the General Pharmaceutical Council which led to creating and/or updating several modules. I designed ‘Approaches to Pharmaceutical Manufacturing’ for 2nd year Pre-Pharmacy course and co-designed other modules like ‘Advanced pharmaceutics’ for pharmacy Top-Up year course.
Student Experience & Support
I designed and implemented a peer-led support programme for Pre-Pharmacy course students which expanded to cover several topics. The outcome of this work was published as short case study in AdvancedHE.
