About
My experience in FE/HE spans more than 20 years with a spectrum of roles, responsibilities and achievements. I worked as a research assistant, lecturer, senior lecturer and associate professor in four different universities. I managed academic courses, HE projects and educational missions. I have worked as a member of technical office to a HE minister and initiated national projects and international cooperation activities. I also worked in the diplomatic core for six years in the Egyptian cultural and educational bureau in London (cultural attaché and cultural and educational counsellor).
I am currently the Course Leader of Civil Engineering BEng (Hons), MEng and the degree apprenticeship programmes in Construction.
As an academic, I lectured on many modules for UG and PG levels, supervised BSc-BEng/MSc research projects, and supervised completed MRes and PhD theses.
Qualifications
- PhD, Civil Engineering Department, The Queen's University of Belfast, Belfast, UK. July 1994.
- BSc (Hons), in Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt. July 1989
- Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. 2015
- Prince2 Practitioner
Domains
As an academic, I lecture on many modules for UG and PG levels, supervise BSc-BEng/MSc research projects, supervised completed MRes and PhD theses. Having experience in directing undergraduate courses raising and sustaining the NSS overall student satisfaction at 95% for successive academic years, I also achieved the highest university score, for administration and management of a course for two successive years (2015–2017). I am a senior fellow of the HEA (2015) and have been involved in school-wide preparation for TEF.
Academic leadership, quality assurance and student experience had been the centre of many of my recent roles. I co-lead teams for the internal validation and the external accreditation of civil engineering courses at LSBU and all construction disciplines at Kingston University. I lead teams through the successful validation of BSc, BEng and MEng courses and participated at validation panels at university level. I served as a vice-chair of a School Academic Standards Committee and sat/chaired on university's appeal panels. I acted as the academic lead, for the school of built environment, in the liaison with industry in the setup of provision for the new apprenticeships scheme (2015).
At Kingston University, I participated in the successful accreditation of the Civil & Infrastructure BEng, leading the accreditation its degree apprenticeship provision as well as co-leading the accreditation of the surveying courses and their degree apprenticeship provision.
Qualifications
- SFHEA: Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, UK, September 2015
- Awarded the best university lecturer for academic assessment and feedback (LSBU, 2017)
- Highly commended for the award of the best university lecturer for academic assessment and feedback (LSBU, 2018)
