About
I am a senior lecturer in social work and Course Lead for the postgraduate Practice Education programme at Kingston University. I also lead a Law and Social Policy module on the BA (Hons) Social Work programme. My academic practice is shaped by over twenty years of frontline experience in statutory children’s services, family court social work, and social pedagogy. As a practising social pedagogue and registered social worker, I bring a relational, rights based perspective to teaching, research, and international collaboration.
Alongside my university role, I continue to practise as a registered social worker, representing the voices and best interests of children in complex public and private law proceedings. This dual practice–academic position informs my teaching, strengthens my connection to contemporary practice realities and underpins my commitment to evidence informed and ethically grounded social work.
Before joining Kingston University, I worked across several local authorities with children in need, children at risk of significant harm, looked after children, and families involved in complex public law proceedings. This practice experience shaped my academic and professional focus on international safeguarding, kinship care, and permanency planning.
I am currently developing research partnerships in the UK and across Europe in the areas of international kinship care, cross border family justice, and the social policy implications of migration and Brexit for children and families. I welcome collaboration with researchers, practitioners, and policymakers working in these fields.
I hold an MA (Distinction) in Professional Education and Training, a BA in Social Pedagogy, and a BA in History Teaching. I am a qualified Practice Educator and Practice Assessor, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), with extensive experience in professional and practice-based education.
