About
Gaëlle Vallée-Tourangeau is Professor of Behavioural Science at Kingston Business School, where she served as Director of Research and Enterprise (2019–2025). Her research explores the psychological and behavioural mechanisms that shape human decision-making, creativity, and motivation—particularly in contexts such as organisational change, sustainability and healthcare.
She leads the Behavioural Science and Creative Insights (BeSCi) research group, advancing interdisciplinary research on behavioural insights, decision-making, and creative cognition. Her work has informed policy and practice across sectors, including global health, vaccine hesitancy, and peer-review cognition.
Gaëlle’s expertise spans cognitive psychology, applied behavioural science, and innovative research methods such as multimedia cognitive ethnography and eye-tracking. She has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals including Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied, Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, Psychological Science, Cognition, and Vaccine, and has received funding from the Wellcome Trust, Leverhulme Trust, Sanofi-Pasteur, and the French National Research Agency.
She is a former President of the European Association for Decision Making and an Associate Editor for the European Review of Applied Psychology. Her outreach work includes keynote lectures, media interviews, and consultancy for organisations such as Sanofi-Pasteur, WHO, PromoVeritas, Create4MentalHealth and the Kingston Chamber of Commerce.
Qualifications
- PhD in Psychology (Judgement and Decision-Making)
- MSc in Experimental Social Psychology
- BSc in Psychology
Domains
I am a behavioural scientist exploring the psychology of decision-making, risk, uncertainty, and thinking. My current research focuses on the motors and barriers that influence engagement in creative cognition and practice—in professional settings and everyday life. I investigate how individuals generate insights, solve problems, and innovate, and how these processes are shaped by motivational dynamics, cognitive styles (intuitive vs. deliberative), and the design of their informational and physical environments.
My work also examines how people interpret and communicate uncertainty, and how judgments and choices are influenced by the artefacts, tools, and social contexts they interact with. This includes applied research in areas such as vaccine hesitancy, peer-review cognition, and sustainable decision-making.
Having recently completed a six-year term as Director of Research and Enterprise at Kingston Business School, I am now reengaging with my research agenda—bringing renewed focus to understanding how we can foster creative thinking and problem-solving in diverse contexts.
