About
I received my PhD in Economics from DELTA (Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris) in 1996. Among other positions, I have been Associate Professor at the Toulouse School of Economics (1998-2008) and then Senior Lecturer at City, University of London, and Head of the Economics Department in the period 2013-2017.
I joined Kingston University as Professor of Economics in January 2019, and was appointed Associate Dean for Research of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences in January 2020 until December 2024. From October 2021 till May 2023, I served as Interim Dean of the Faculty.
I have taught a variety of courses, including Labour Economics, Macro, Micro, Economics of Organisations and Strategy, Public Economics, and Economics of Identity, Culture, and Language.
My main areas of research interest are Labour Economics and Political Economy. Currently, I am working on papers on the use of the English language in India, the stability of political party systems, and the relation between nation-building and colonisation.
I am a Visiting Senior Fellow at the European Institute, London School of Economics.

Courses taught
I conduct research in labour economics and (historical) political economy.
In labour economics, my work focuses on topics such as the design of unemployment benefits, the determinants of immigrants’ language skills, and the impact of immigration on the labour market outcomes of immigrants. These topics are explored through both theoretical modelling and empirical analysis.
In (historical) political economy, I develop theoretical models to examine phenomena such as political correctness, nation-building through education in 19th-century Europe or during colonisation, and the organisation of education in multilingual societies.
