Andrew Haines OBE

Chief Executive, Network Rail

MBA (1995)

Andrew HainesIn 2018, Andrew was appointed Chief Executive of Network Rail, returning to the rail industry after 9 years as Chief Executive of the Civil Aviation Authority.

Andrew's first job as a left luggage clerk at London Victoria led to a wide-ranging career in the rail industry.  He was the Managing Director of the Rail Division of First Group plc, a £1.5bn turnover profit centre and Britain's largest train operator. He was headhunted to take on this role following a successful turnaround of South West Trains where he was Managing Director from 2000-2005.

"My Kingston MBA was probably the single biggest step I took in transforming my career prospects – partly because of the great business grounding it gave me, but also because it gave me confidence that I could hold my own in a diverse, business environment. It was an efficient method of learning and gaining a business qualification when a full time programme was simply not viable for me. The emphasis on joint and supported learning in study groups was brilliant at ensuring real interaction and a diverse perspective not limited to a text book approach."
