A Conversation with Paula McGowan

Kingston & St Georges Nursing Society and School of Nursing are pleased to welcome Paula McGowan to talk about the life and untimely death of her son Oliver, aged 18 years old.

Paula helms a social movement to improve the knowledge and skills of all healthcare professionals in working with people with learning disabilities and autism, which has resulted in a petition gaining over 50k signatories, a debate in Parliament and a Department of Health consultation on mandatory training for all health professionals on learning disability and autism which is due to report this autumn.

The families' horrific experiences of healthcare shone a light on the inequities that people with autism and learning disabilities face, harnessing this with energy and determination, Paula reflects both on her role as an activist and leader for change and the sometimes simple skills required to make adjustments to make care and support, safe, effective and person centred.

A limited number of places are available and have been prioritised for students and partners for a limited time. Please book yours as soon as possible.

Demand is likely to be high on the day, and entry will not be guaranteed without a ticket
