Why the future of healthcare is data-driven
Biology is evolving rapidly. Advances in genome sequencing, artificial intelligence, and personalised medicine have created an explosion of biological data. Today, the challenge is not just collecting information but analysing and interpreting it accurately.
Bioinformatics lies at the centre of this transformation. By combining biology with computer science and data analysis, researchers can better understand complex diseases and develop more targeted treatments. As healthcare becomes increasingly data-focused, the need for interdisciplinary scientists continues to grow.
How Kingston University is preparing me for what comes next
Studying a biological sciences degree accredited by the Royal Society of Biology at Kingston University has given me a strong foundation in genetics, molecular biology, and laboratory research. Through practical sessions and coursework, I have developed analytical thinking and problem-solving skills that are essential in scientific innovation.
Alongside my degree, I have developed a growing interest in computational biology. Exploring how programming and data analysis can support biological research has shown me how powerful this combination can be. Kingston’s academic environment has encouraged me to think beyond traditional pathways and consider careers that combine science and technology.
Looking ahead: my next steps
After graduation, I plan to pursue a masters degree in bioinformatics, specialising in genomic data analysis and disease research. My long-term goal is to contribute to advancements in personalised medicine and data-driven healthcare solutions.
For fellow students, my advice is to remain curious and open to interdisciplinary learning. Some of the most exciting careers emerge where disciplines overlap. Kingston University has given me the foundation and confidence to explore this path, and I am excited to take the next step.
