Department of Law

We are a forward looking and friendly law department with a long and distinguished history. We are very proud of our heritage as a leading law department, established in the 1960s.  We offer a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in current and developing aspects of law, including the LLB, a range of Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma courses and our LLM programmes.

We are a research-focused department and we strongly believe that a research led learning experience of the highest quality will enable our students to meet the challenges posed by new developments in substantive law and the legal system. Our academics have strong research backgrounds and as a department we work closely with a large number of organisations to study and develop new and influential ideas.

Our aim is help you to achieve your career aspirations and make your life what you want it to be. We encourage our students to take a hands-on approach to their legal studies and at Kingston University you will have a wide range of opportunities to develop your legal skills through our internationally renowned teaching in mooting, client interviewing, negotiation and mediation skills. In all of these areas we have achieved considerable success in national and international student competitions.  We have an established pro bono Community Legal Advice Centre, in which you can gain hands on practical experience of advising clients on their legal problems.

All of our academics have a genuine interest and commitment in helping our students develop and achieve at Kingston University. Our location near to central London means our students are on the door-step of the legal heartland of the country. These opportunities have already helped our many illustrious alumni, who have moved on to become barristers, senior partners within large law firms and judges.

I look forward to welcoming you to Kingston.
