The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing has an established culture of research across the disciplines of Biosciences, Chemistry and Pharmacy, Engineering, Geography, Sport and Exercise Sciences, Surveying and Computing.
Research within the faculty is valued, encouraged and supported; undertaking research is an integral part of academic life here. Many of our academics have extensive networks nationally and internationally, which offer opportunities for collaborative working and access to a wide range of resources and expertise.
Our collaborative and multidisciplinary research is supported by strong links with industry and funding from a range of sources including the European Commission, UK research councils, charities and multinational corporations.
We offer three degree options - MSc by Research, MPhil and PhD degrees - potentially available in every Research Centre and subject area.
As a research student, you will be part of an ambitious Faculty that offers fantastic opportunities for inter-disciplinary research and experience, a great research student community, world-class facilities, and the opportunity to develop contacts with external organisations in close collaboration with the Faculty.
Research in the Faculty takes place in three recognised University Centres of Research Excellence:
Researchers from the Faculty were part of a consortium of global experts from five countries who work on the Safe You project.
It investigated the use of performance and appearance enhancing substances (PAES) in 16–25 year-olds, showing a variety of use patterns, motives and attitudes towards these substances.
