Sustainable Design MA: Student Projects 2018

Student Projects 2018

The logical argument for sustainability is clear, but unconvincing. We know we should act to address our current unsustainability, but we do not do so. To take sustainability seriously, we need to not only understand it, but also to feel it. A technical discourse of sustainability does not lead to change. We need to humanise the case for sustainability, to make it more meaningful at an intuitive, visceral level. We need to design ways of enabling responses to the call for sustainability which go beyond appeals to reason.

MA Sustainable Design at Kingston School of Art seeks to equip designers with the tools and understandings to navigate these unknown territories of sustainability. This process of personal reorientation involves a non-linear exploration of new spaces, and an ability to pivot and change direction when needed. It requires us to plot routes through the wilderness which start from where we are now. Diverse and collaborative. Art and science. Magic and logic.
