Research in Kingston School of Art

Kingston School of Art is an internationally leading hub for creative research, spanning fine arts, design, architecture, literature and performing arts. With globally renowned artists and researchers and strong ties to industry and cultural institutions, our work blends innovation with critical practice.

The School’s research was recognised as world-leading in the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), with over 79% of our outputs rated as internationally excellent or higher, and with 87% of the Faculty’s overall profile rated as either world-leading or internationally excellent (UoA32: Art & Design).

Supported by strong funding from bodies like the AHRC, Wellcome Trust and Horizon 2020, it has produced ambitious projects like the Artist Citizens Jury, the Eadweard Muybridge web portal, Making Film History, and Fixperts.

Partnerships include the Tate, BBC, ICA, V&A and the NHS. Postgraduate students benefit from hands-on projects, while PhD researchers have been provided with grants from TECHNE and LDOC (The London Doctoral Design Research Centre), creating future leaders in art and design research.
