Womenswear Pattern Cutting
Subject and course type
- Short course
In this short course, you'll master pattern drafting, customise standard blocks and transform shop-bought patterns into your own unique designs.
Expand your pattern-cutting repertoire
Learn the fundamental pattern drafting skills you need to bring your fashion designs to life.
The course is divided into four modules, which can be booked individually, as a two-week block, or as a full four-week summer school. Each module focuses on a core size-12 womenswear block, exploring design adaptations.
You’ll learn how to alter pattern pieces, move darts, change seam lines, and adjust the fit and silhouette of a garment. The course will build your confidence in interpreting designs and creating styled patterns. Each module also covers adding seam allowances and finalising patterns for sewing. By the end, you’ll have a file of pattern samples to refer to for future designs.
The course uses size-12 blocks, but after completion, you can purchase blocks in other sizes and apply the same techniques. Note, this course does not cover jackets or coats, and it focuses on garments made from woven, non-stretch fabrics.
