All International Business Management MSc students – including those on the marketing, project management and entrepreneurship pathways – have the opportunity to put their new knowledge and skills into practice through the consultancy project.
This project has been designed with flexibility in mind and is undertaken instead of a dissertation. The project will be directly relevant to the world of work – students will solve a real business problem for a real business client, gaining valuable insights into business organisation and practice. The client firm receives a useful piece of work while also contributing as a corporate social responsibility initiative. At the end of the project, the students will have to produce a confidential report for the client.
Students will have the option to either choose one of the pre-selected companies/projects or they could suggest their own company. However, all suggestions made by students will have to be evaluated by the module's team. Therefore, students wishing to approach a company on their own are encouraged to send their suggestion to the Module Leader first, before going any further.
With the pre-selected companies/projects, the University will aim to provide a good range in terms of industry and company size. Examples of clients offered in 2014/15 include: Kimberly Clark; Henkel; S&K Syndicate; Mampleworks; The Brain Tumour Charity; Fast Track Pharma and Acxiom. (Please note that the companies provided to students for the project vary from year to year.)
Some students will also have the opportunity to undertake the project in Thailand with their flight and accommodation sponsored by the university. There will be a competitive selection process for determining which students will be selected.
