About
I am a biochemist and cell biologist. After completing my PhD at Stanford University, I have gained a vast amount of experience in laboratory research at the Open University, Queen Mary University, London and in biomedical SMEs. After a brief teaching assistant position at QMUL in Sept 2022, I joined Kingston as a lecturer in Biosciences.
I am currently involved in the teaching of modules LS4003, LS5002, LS6001 and LS6014. My research interests include the identification, synthesis and characterisation of antibacterial and anticancer natural products and the elucidation of the role of long noncoding RNAs in human cells.
Qualifications
- PhD - Biophysical Chemistry
- BSc - Chemistry
Domains
I am currently involved in the teaching of four modules: LS4003 (Scientific and Laboratory Skills), LS5002 (Proteins and Metabolism), LS6001 (Bioinformatics) and LS6014 (final year bioscience project). I design and deliver lectures, lead practical sessions and workshops.
Courses taught
My main research verges on the identification and characterisation of novel bioactive compounds from natural sources. We have recently completed a contract research for the company Inspira Pharmaceuticals about a new antibacterial molecule found in an extract of the Carica papaya plant. I am currently working on the analysis of a bioactive extract from the Ficus carica plant.
I am also involved in a bioinformatics project aimed at discovering new bioactive peptides originating from long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs).
