These classes are open to students from any faculty but they take place at the Penrhyn Road campus. Each course focuses on a particular writing or speaking skill or aspect of language. The courses last for nine weeks. The courses are free and voluntary but we do ask that you try to attend every week – you gain 10 points for your 'Kingston Award' if you attend 80% of a course. You can also add the course to your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR).
The following courses are held in your faculty, on your campus, and are open to students of your faculty only. They cover the specific skills you need for courses in your faculty.
Level 4 Social Work and WCYP; Level 5 Social Work; Masters in Social Work, undergraduate midwifery courses and MSc Nursing courses will all have your own writing courses tailored to your assignment needs. You are welcome to attend any of the ‘open' classes at Penrhyn Road.
This course is designed for students who do not have English as a first language. It focuses on the language and skills which are important for academic study. It particularly suits students who are already studying on a degree and want extra practice alongside their course. It is also helpful for those considering entering university education in the near future.
