About
I am a social psychologist, and I teach and research topics that explore how people think, feel, and act in groups, especially in areas such as health, identity, and social change. I am enthusiastic about applying psychology to real-world challenges and exploring how critical thinking can help us understand the hidden ideologies behind daily life.
I worked as a psychologist to deliver care to patients with substance dependence and other mental health issues. My early research focused on how communities understand and respond to alcoholism, particularly in men's health. I worked directly with Primary Health Care teams to create support groups that tackled issues around alcohol use, mental health, and masculinity.
Currently, my research focuses on social movements, veganism, and the psychology of social change. I am especially interested in how our beliefs and identities shape everyday actions and how our actions may reinforce or challenge deep-rooted social norms and representations.

Societal impact
I currently work in partnership with Voices of Hope (Kingston upon Thames) to produce knowledge about their activities in support of women in situations of vulnerability and domestic violence. I also conduct knowledge exchange activities with animal rights organisations.
From 2010 to 2013, I developed a programme of action research and psychosocial intervention in partnership with a Brazilian primary health care centre. This programme included the investigation of social representations and social practices towards alcoholism, masculinity, and male patients, as well as a series of applications with a positive social impact. In partnership with health care professionals, I set up a series of interventions to approach the underserved male population covered by the mentioned health centre, especially alcoholic men. This action research programme included quantitative and qualitative studies and contributed to the construction of new spaces of care and protagonism for the male population living in the nearby underserved communities and played an important role in challenging the gender stereotypes constructed by the health professionals themselves.
From 2013 to 2018, I coordinated the practices of psychology students in educational and social welfare services in collaboration with their professional teams. These practices included professional guidance workshops with students in secondary education and support groups with mothers of people with learning disabilities and with adolescents at risk.
