I completed a BSc (Hons) and an MSc in Physiotherapy in Krakow (Poland) in 2001. I was awarded a PhD from St. George's University of London in 2013. My professional expertise is in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, and respiratory care within primary and secondary care settings. I have gained clinical and research experience in Poland, Belgium and the UK. I am also an independent and supplementary prescriber.
I have been a part of the ERS Task Force group for the HERMES (Harmonised Education in Respiratory Medicine for European Specialists) project that worked on a development of a harmonised syllabus and curriculum for post-graduate education in respiratory physiotherapy. Currently, I am a member of the editorial board for the Association of Charted Physiotherapist in Respiratory Care (ACPRC). I collaborate nationally and internationally with academic and professional colleagues in the UK, Poland and Spain. My special research interests are Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease management, Subjective Fatigue, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Ambulatory Oxygen and respiratory physiotherapy practice and education. I have been an invited speaker to various international conferences and reviewer for peer-reviewed journals. I am a member of European Respiratory Society (ERS), British Thoracic Society (BTS) and The Polish Chamber of Physiotherapists (KIF).
I have been involved in undergraduate and post-graduate student teaching across various courses in the Faculty of Health and Social Care and Education since 2005. Currently, I lead modules for pre-registration physiotherapy courses, as well as post-graduate interdisciplinary prescribing module for HCPC members. I am involved in post-graduate research student supervision and teaching research methods.
I am influencing development of respiratory physiotherapy education nationally and internationally. I have been an active member of the international HERMES Project Task Group, which in assossiation with the Europen Respiratory Society, developed the syllabus and curriculum for the postgraduate respiratory physiotherapy education across the world. The results have been published in peer-reviewed journals (see research repository). The syllabus and curriculum have established international standards and a benchmark for postgraduate education in respiratory physiotherapy specialists across the world.
I collaborate with the Polish Chamber of Physiotherapists to increase interest and awarness of best practice in respiratory physiotherapy. During COVID pandemics I led the development of rapid recommendations for physiotherapists in Poland working with COVID patients. I have been also invited as a lead author to write a book on Respiratory Physiotherapy. First part of the open access ebook on respiratory assessment has been published in 2020 (See research repository).
External and International collaborations:
Teaching module leadership:
I am involved in collaborative research projects investigating respiratory physiotherapy (education and practice), pulmonary rehabilitation, and respiratory muscle strength measures. I am also co-applicant on number of research grants. I present research on national and international conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals. I review for number of peer-reviewed journals, Cochrane Collaboration and NIHR grant funding. My special research interests are Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Subjective Fatigue, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Ambulatory Oxygen and Cardio-respiratory physiotherapy.
For 7 years (2012-2019), I have been a member of the Harmonised Education and Training in Respiratory Medicine for European specialists (HERMES) project working task group associated with European Respiratory Society (ERS). Curriculum design methodology (Delphi methodology) was adopted and national responders across the world has been involved. The project developed syllabus and curriculum in postgraduate education for respiratory physiotherapists and results were published
