I am the Head of Department of Civil Engineering, Surveying and Construction Management within the School of Engineering and the Environment. Prior to joining Kingston in 2012, I was a Research Fellow at the Innovative Construction Research Centre (ICRC), University of Reading. Prior to working in academia, I was in The Concrete Centre (TCC) where I worked in multi-disciplinary teams being involved in modern concrete techniques and technologies as well as modern procurement approaches.
I am a senior academic with leadership and management experience in professional bodies and academic institutions. I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and also a Senior Fellow of The Higher Education Academy (HEA).
My research interests span construction project management and sustainable construction including application of digital technologies for managing and improving construction quality. I have a number of publications in reputed international journals and conferences. I am an on-going reviewer for a number of reputable international journals.
Head of Department
My focus is on practice-based pedagogy in the context of construction industry, teaching the real-world application of theory and the fostering of professional knowledge, including effective promotion of placements and work-like experience. My objective is to maintain a practice-based learning environment, and where possible (and beneficial to the students) introducing practitioners and employers from the industry.
My research interests span a number of areas, including improving interdisciplinary collaboration in the construction process; the changing nature of the building environmental assessment tools; quality management and application of digital technology across construction industry. And in the area of digital technology, I am currently focusing in particular on developing an improved understanding of the application of digital technologies for managing and improving construction quality.
