Dr Kevin Barker

About

A graduate of UWI, London (Birkbeck and King's) and Cambridge, crossing disciplines as a legal scholar and criminologist.

I joined Kingston University in November 2018 from the University of Suffolk, where I was a senior lecturer in law and criminology and founding director of law (subject lead). Prior to that, I taught law at Birkbeck College, University of London. I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a former associate fellow at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, University of London.

I work at the intersection of law, criminology and history, enabled by advanced degrees in all three disciplines. My research interests are mainly in  jurisprudence, public law, private law, criminal justice, global criminology, penal law and policy, postcolonial/decolonial criminology, human rights, legal history and empirical legal studies. I am currently completing a book on penal jurisprudence to be published by Routledge.
