Dr Linda Collins

Associate Professor

About

My nursing career began soon after registering with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a qualified nurse. Community nursing was the platform that opened the doors to my area of expertise, research and lifelong learning. Whilst working in the community as a district nurse, my role focused on acute and long-term urinary retention, catheterisation and continence management. My academic career developed soon after being appointed as a clinical research nurse. Clinical research was conducted at the Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms Service, which was a joint appointment within the Division of Medicine, University College London (UCL) and Whittington Hospital. During my time as a research nurse, I embarked on a doctoral degree at the University of Southampton in partnership with UCL. My primary research focused on the diagnosis and management of urinary tract infections (UTI), lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), urine specimen collection techniques and microbiological cell staining for the identification of urothelial cells. The scientific knowledge obtained through extensive research and collaborative projects, has transpired through various symposiums, publications and medical and nursing seminars.

As an Associate Professor, I lead and manage a team of highly skilled Senior Lecturers who teach within the context of adult and acute care nursing. I work collaboratively with senior leadership within the School of Nursing to facilitate student excellence and success through teaching and learning, an inclusive curriculum and personal and professional coaching. I remain a research associate at the Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms Service, an institutional link between the University and NHS organisations and I continue to engage with research, knowledge transfer and PhD doctoral supervision.
