Mr Jan Goodey

Course Director MA Magazine Journalism

About

I have worked on (online) magazines/newsletters/newspapers/B2Bs since leaving school. I started out on the Harlow Gazette, working for locals in Ilford and Camden before joining the Sunday Mirror, briefly.

Having freelanced on Fleet St, I  co-founded an award-winning magazine on the south coast called New Insight.

Since November 2013   I have been leading journalistic/academic investigations into UK Local Government Pension Schemes (published as exclusives in national newspapers in 2014 Independent on Sunday/i newspaper).

More recently I undertook a six month investigation in  collaboration with the Bureau of  Investigative Journalism, London (Jan-July 2017) looking at unethical investments using public sector pension funds which resulted in international stories on a baby formula milk scandal and coal mining set to destroy the Great Barrier Reef.

I currently write for The Ecologist online magazine and occasionally Red Pepper magazine as well as iNews and iNewspaper.

More recently I have been investigating the existential  threats faced by National Parks which have resulted in the following publications:
