A practicing biomedical scientist since 1978, gaining my state registration in 1981, and Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences in 1983. Laboratory manager for the Clinical Chemistry laboratory at North West London Hospitals NHS Trust between 1995 and 2007. Visiting lecturer at the University of Westminster between 2002 and 2007. In 2008 joined Kingston University as a senior lecturer in Clinical Chemistry and Biomedical Sciences. In 2009 appointed as field leader for taught postgraduate courses in Life Sciences and course director for the MSc in Biomedical Science. In 2014 appointed as associate professor in Biomedical Science.

My main areas of research are in the areas of iron overload diseases, and in 'point of care testing'. I also have general interests in novel biomarkers of disease (eg hepcidin, microRNAs) and in Vitamin D metabolism.
