About
I received the MEng degree in Microengineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Switzerland) and PhD degree at King's College, London in 1996 and 2004, respectively. I was involved in the EPSRC project "A multi-sensor system for sewer inspection" as part of my PhD where I pioneered the use of camera and laser profiler for pipe inspection. After that, I was a research fellow at the University of Surrey (2003–2005) and at the Communications and Signal Processing (CSP) Department, Imperial College (2005–2009), London, where I worked for the Data and Information Fusion Defence Technology Centre (DIF DTC) established by the UK Ministry of Defence in the area of data and information fusion, in particular via multidimensional multi-and-hyperspectral imaging techniques. The research emphasis was to automatically detect anomalies with sub-pixel accuracy using airborne spectral images.
I have also industrial experience in instrumentation and calibration (Cetecom, Spain), metal detection (Protovale Ltd) and mine detection (Guartel Ltd) companies.
My research interests are centred on computational intelligence, signal processing and computer vision applied to remote sensed data. Projects include developing models in combination with remotely sensed data to develop algorithms that can automatically inspect and detect objects in real time.
