Kingston's Design Marketing BA, with a focus on the Creative and Cultural Industries, will give you strong foundations for a fast-paced professional future. Our graduates have gone on to bring their design and commercial knowledge to a range of roles in agencies and other creative organisations.
You'll collaborate with other students and industry professionals on real-world projects. You’ll learn to visualise, experiment and project manage – all while accelerating your knowledge.

On this course, you will learn how to craft intuitive interfaces, customer journeys, and creative campaigns that blend storytelling with usability. You will explore branding, digital platforms, and user experience (UX), working with real clients to understand audiences and deliver impactful design solutions. Through live briefs and experimental projects, you will have opportunities to test ideas, work with clients, and develop your creative voice. You will explore a wide range of approaches: storytelling, visual communication, digital media, and customer experience. Throughout the course, your focus will be on making design purposeful, innovative, and responsible.
You will develop practical, conceptual, and analytical skills that prepare you to design for impact. This includes branding and user experience (UX), strategy and customer insight. Alongside technical expertise, you will examine how inclusivity, ethics, and sustainability shape the role of design in today’s world.
As a student in Kingston School of Art, you will join a dynamic creative community where interdisciplinary collaboration and critical thinking are central to learning. You will benefit from our Thinking Through Making ethos, which places experimentation and hands-on practice at the heart of your studies. World-class facilities, including immersive technology spaces, 3D workshops, and film, photography, and printmaking studios, will support you in prototyping, testing, and delivering your ideas.
You'll also become part of our student-powered creative agency, Studio KT1, and gain the commercial and organisational skills and insight to thrive in the creative and cultural sector.

Course content
The Design Marketing degree develops design marketing skills and judgement. You will learn how to deliver the visual aspects of an organisation or client's marketing communications and gain project management knowledge through a combination of in-house and live briefs you will discover your creative self and your future role in industry.
Year 1
Year 1 is common to all our creative and cultural industries courses. You will explore visual communication techniques, use of design software, storytelling and design thinking. You will learn individually and as part of a team of creative partners and professionals. You will examine the management and strategy of creative enterprises, and the history and development of art and design practice.
Core modules
Year 2
You will study the principles and skills of design and marketing communications in depth. You will focus on user experience, especially the digital journeys of customers. You will also learn design and prototyping software for website and app development. You will study conceptualisation and visualisation, visual narratives and storyboarding, artwork commission, branding, entrepreneurship, managing risk, project management and strategy.
You can choose to apply for a summer internship at the end of Year 2 to gain valuable experience and increase your employability.

You have the option to take an additional year to study abroad.
Year 3
You will study cultural entrepreneurship and explore ways of building a sustainable independent career. You will further your knowledge and skills in the ideation and execution of digital marketing materials
The major project in your final year will be a visual project, business or marketing plan, or consultancy project for a company.
You will research and identify a current marketing issue and provide visual communication solutions that are tailored for the chosen audience. You will be challenged and guided by your supervisors to achieve your potential.

Scheduled learning and teaching on this course includes timetabled activities including lectures, seminars and small group tutorials. It may also include critiques, project work, studio practice and performance, digital labs, workshops, and placements.
