Creative and Professional Writing BA(Hons): Course features

What this course offers you

  • You'll receive a solid grounding in the practice of creative and professional writing, including digital writing, creative non-fiction, prose writing, poetry, and dramatic writing.
  • You'll develop an awareness and critical understanding of writing as a craft, including in the varied processes of drafting, review, and editing.
  • You'll understand how writing can be used to communicate with varying effects in a range of contexts, and with appropriate uses of style, register, and form.
  • You'll stretch your own creative practice through supervised independent projects including opportunities to develop extended pieces of writing with support from specialist staff.
  • You'll put your writing skills to work in real-world contexts, building vital transferable workplace skills and preparing you for a career centred on writing practice.
  • In the final year you will undertake a major project module designed to put your skills into practice in relevant real world industry contexts, which in turn will look great on your CV. This may involve visits to the employers you are working with, or may be based at the University.
  • All students are able to undertake an optional year abroad, either in a work placement or for additional study.
  • This degree is also available as a sandwich degree.
