Science foundation year: Entry requirements

Entry requirements for 2019

Typical offer

Points: 32
Units: two A-levels or equivalent. Those studying two or more science-based A-levels or equivalent may be considered over-qualified for this course

Subjects:

  • GCSE: candidates are normally required to hold five GCSE subjects grades A*C (or comparable numeric score under the newly reformed GCSE gradings): including English Language, Mathematics and Double Award Science.

Other entry routes

We will consider a range of alternative qualifications or experience that is equivalent to the typical offer. Formal qualifications are not essential but offers depend on an interview. Applications from international students with equivalent qualifications are welcome. Please contact us for details.

Please note: This is not a standalone course but is an integrated foundation year. UCAS codes are included on the relevant webpage for the course you would like to study which offer the foundation year option. We will consider you as overqualified for the foundation route into Pharmacy if you have two or more science A2s. In such cases, we will either make you an offer on an alternative course or mark your application as unsuccessful.

Interviews, entrance tests, auditions and portfolios

Entry on to this course does not require an interview, entrance test, audition or portfolio.

English language requirements

All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirements. For this course it is:

  • Academic IELTS of 6.5 overall with special conditions in all elements for students progressing to the Pharmacy MPharm; or
  • Academic IELTS of 6.0 overall with special conditions in all elements for students progressing to any other course.

Please make sure you read our full guidance about English language requirements, which includes details of other qualifications we'll consider.

Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements may be eligible to join our pre-sessional English language course, except those applying for the B231 Pharmacy MPharm programme.

Applicants from one of the recognised majority English speaking countries (MESCs) do not need to meet these requirements.
