About the faculty and staff



FADA facultyThe Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture teaches this course. The Faculty has its roots in the studio-based approach of Britain's art school system (the original School of Art was founded in the 1890s).

Today, most of your learning still takes place in our specialist studios. Each subject area has its own fully-equipped studio, where you take part in classes, tutorials and critical reviews with fellow students. This strong studio culture also ensures regular interaction between students and tutors.

Our industry connections mean we provide unique study opportunities, such as:

  • the chance to have your work seen by eminent members of your profession
  • 'live' projects, site visits and placements in prestigious companies or institutions
  • project work and workshops with visiting lecturers and industry specialists

Our excellent reputation means that industry leaders regularly visit our student shows to see the best of the new talent.

Where is the Faculty based? Most students in the Faculty are based at the University's Knights Park campus, with surveying courses based at Penrhyn Road. Our well-equipped facilities offer a modern study environment so that you graduate with cutting-edge skills and knowledge.

Charlotte Cullinan

Specialist subjects: Charlotte Cullinan is an artist and one half of the duo known as Cullinan Richards (previously artlab) who show widely both nationally and internationally.


Jeanine Richards

Title:  Module leader, personal tutor and senior lecturer, Art and Space MAFine Art with Learning and Teaching in Higher Education MA and European Art Practice MA

Specialist subjects: Jeanine Richards is an artist who, together with Charlotte Cullinan, forms Cullinan Richards (previously known as artlab), a duo known for their collaborative projects.


Robert Garnett

Title: Theory module leader and senior lecturer, Art and Space MA, Fine Art with Learning and Teaching in Higher Education MA, European Art Practice MA

Specialist subjects: Robert Garnett is based in Brussels and is a theoritian and art critic who writes extensively in the art press.


Alexis Teplin

Title: Senior Lecturer, Fine Art with Learning and Teaching in Higher Education MA

Specialist subjects: Alexis Teplin was born in California and trained in Los Angeles, receiving her BA from UCLA in 1998 and her MFA at Art Center College of Design in 2001. She currently lectures at both Kingston University and Art Center College of Design.

Recent exhibitions include solo shows 'The Party', Performance for Glasgow International, Tramway (2010) and Serpentine, Park Nights (2009); '5cm higher', Mary Mary, Glasgow (2010); 'Can You Hear the Sea?', Blanket Gallery, Vancouver (2009); 'Viaggio in Italia, For Guilietta', Car Projects, Bologna; and 'Yes Parisol, My Marisol', Hotel, London (both 2008).

Group shows include 'Reframing', CCA Andratx, Majorca (2009); 'Flash', GSK Contemporary, Royal Academy; 'Jenny Lind' Concrete, Hayward Gallery, London; and 'Byronic', Nottingham Contemporary (all 2008).


Jane Gay

Title: Senior lecturer, Academic Development Centre

Educational/professional qualifications: Jane's education and professional qualifications include Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PgCLTHE) 2007; e-Learning/Tutoring Certificate (Track, OCN); Management Development Programme Certificate (FEnto moderated) 2003; Teacher's Certificate in IT (BTEC) 2000; PgCert in Education 1978; and BA(Hons) in Humanities 1977.

Current professional experience: Jane is currently working as a PAL (peer assisted learning) leader co-ordinator; work placement group co-ordinator; and Disability and Dyslexia Action Group representative.


Marion Webb

Title: Head of Learning and Teaching Development, Academic Development Centre

Current professional experience: Marion is the course director for the PgCert Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. She is also the module leader for 'Assessment and Feedback in Higher Education Leadership in Higher Education' and module leader manager of 'Learning and Teaching Strategy'. She is chair of both the Foundation Degree Forum and the SEEC Skills/PDP Network, plus a core member of the Higher Education Policy and Practice Research Group.

External examining: Marion is external examiner to South Bank University (PgCert Learning and Teaching in Higher Education); the Central School of Speech and Drama (PgCert Learning and Teaching in Higher Education); and King's College, London (Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice). She has also published widely on teaching and learning.
